Cyperdiuk = Ципердюк in Ukrainian
Modified By Hannia on 7/19/2008 4:29:45 PM)

¿Cuál es el apellido del Abuelo? ¿Cyperdiuk o Dowus?

¿Cuándo inmigró Abuelo a Argentina?

Re: Cyperdiuk = Ципердюк in Ukrainian
Your Grandparents were DP/ Displaced People after World War 2.  They
were very likely Ostarbeiter/forced laborers.

Germans kept excellent records. Recently they consolidated five buildings of DP records (3.4 million files) and will now make information available to family members by request.

At the end of the war, there were 8-9 million displaced persons (abducted/injured persons) and refugees in West Germany, Berlin and Austria. Roughly 2,500 displaced persons camps provided shelter for those affected. The various relief agencies and reconstruction institutes were able to repatriate between 6 and 7 million people, and help 1.5 million people to emigrate to other countries, such as Israel, Canada, USA, etc.

UNRRA and IRO registrations are made up of lists, medical records and books, files and questionnaires. Some of the information contained in the records was given personally by the DP.

Before moving your research to Ukraine, consider submitting a request for both Grandparents to the International Tracing Service in Bad Arolsen. They should be able to provide you with grandparents' history in Germany and all other personal detail, including exact place of origin.

You can also contact your local International Red Cross and
ask them to submit a request to the Intl Tracing Service in Bad Arolsen.
That may be easier for using Spanish.

Since you have travel papers for Grandparents, scan them and e-mail
them to me as attachments.  Maybe I can find something that may
help find their birth places. Mitehelp@aol.com

Travel papers were issued by the Military Government for Germany
in lieu of passport for stateless persons and persons of undetermined nationality. Place of issue was probably BAD SALZUFLEN, not
Sad Salzuflen.

Were Grandparents married in Germany?

I am guessing  that Maindowbus may be Majdan in
Ivano-Frankivsk, formerly Stanislawow ??
