Other old surnames include Boyechko, Vynasniak, Vyntonyszyn, Havrylyszyn, Hudko, Dutchak, Dzudza, Dolynchuk, Kahlian, Kapunos, Kalynchuk, Kyryliv, Lavriv, Markiv, Myhajliuk, Mykytiuk, Melnyk, Nosko, Nychaj, Ostrynskij, Pasichuk, Senyk, Khalabura and Shyhol.
Czernelytsia is a very old Tartar village. The name of the village
means DARK FACES. It sits 4 kms off the Dniester River's
left bank. Before WW2 there were more than 4,000+ residents
(3,700 Ukr, 1,000 Poles, and some Jews) living there. Today the population of the village is 1,843 and annually getting smaller. The surrounding region is very beautiful, but the roads leading to the village are in such poor conditions that tourists are not interested in going there. There are some 17th century ruins there and a 16th century Roman Catholic Church, that a 10 year old village boy
set fire to only last week. Many young people have migrated
to the large cities for economic reasons.
