Kozinski - Козінський ------ Horiszny/(female) Horiszna = Горішна
Modified By Hannia on 5/12/2008 5:18:20 AM)

Teodor/Теодор was probably called Fedko by family.

Marya = Марія Горішна

From late 18th century to 1919 wies/village Oslawy Czarne was hamlet size, very small. The filial Greek Catholic Church was in Oslawy Biale and the filial Roman Catholic Church was in Delyatyn.  Nadworna was the POWIAT/administrative district - county and Delyatyn was the GMINA/judicial-tax district > Stanislawowskie wojiwodstwo/region > Galicia/Halyczyna (in Ukr) Province, administered by ethnic Poles in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1919 the region declared itself independent Ukraine.  That did not last very long. From 1920-1939 Stanislawow region came  under Reconstituted Poland's  domain.  Technically Poland had not existed as a geopolitical entity for the previous 125 years.  With exceptions noted, all previous place names are using official Polish names.  Post World War 2, Stanislawow (renamed Ivano-Frankivsk in 1962) became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain until 1991, when Ukraine became independent.

TODAY selo/village Chorni Oslavy (Чорні Ослави)  with a population of 2,012 still exists > Nadvirnyanskij (Nadvirnya) raion/district > Ivano-Frankivska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip code 78462

Today selo Bili Oslavy (Білі Ослави) also still exists. It is quite large with 4,525 residents. Everything same as above, except zip code, which is 78460.

_____________________________________________________

Your ancestral village is 60 kms away from Ivano-Frankivsk, the regional
capital, and 100 kms away from the center of Europe.

It was home to the famous Ukrainian poetess, Marijka Pidhiryanka.

In 1943, 80 Ukraniian villagers became victims of the war. They are
listed in the Ivano-Frankivska Oblast WW2 Obituary Books, which can
be obtained thru LDS.

There are several legends regarding the naming of Chorni and Bili Oslavy
(Black and White Glory).

One story dates back to the Mongul-Tartar Onslaught.  The villagers valiantly
resisted.  Where battles were lost was called Chorni Oslavy and where battles
were won was called Bili Oslavy.

Another tells of a father with two sons, one blond and the other black-haired.
Upon the father's death the sons inherited the land.  The property inherited by the
blonde son was called Bili Oslavy and vice versa.

The third story is about the Oslavy River.  Salt was brought in by wagon from
Delyatyn.  Salt was very valuable at the time.  The wagons, when crossing
the river would be attacked by bandits.  There was a safe place to cross,
where bandits seldom attacked, called Bili Oslavy and an unsafe place called
Chorni Oslavy.
