Aca en la comunidad ucraniana de la Argentina hay conocidos con apellido "Karas", tal vez tiene una búsqueda similar y pueda ayudarte.

Karacz in Ukrainian is Карач .  The surname first shows up in
Zhytomir documents in 1584.  It has a Turkish root, which means PERSON WITH CROOKED FEET or SOMEONE SHORT. 
 
In the 16th century this was Volyn, I am pretty sure under Polish-Lithuanian Empire. 

Today the surname can be found in places like Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnitska oblasts
